Transforming DER opportunities into real-time performance.
Connecting grid-wide intelligence, optimization, coordination, monetization, and decarbonization in a single platform.
QGEMS: Cloud-based critical energy infrastructure
QGEMS delivers an Energy Resource Planning, Management and Optimization platform (ERPMO) for utilities, aggregators, asset and portfolio managers, commercial and industrial prosumers.
QGEMS ERPMO is defined by the following characteristics:
Command-and-control by Design
Asset optimization, coordination, dispatch, and settlement of distributed resources as a command-and-control layer providng analytics and asset performance in real-time.
Whole-system Scope
The system uses generation, area control error, and distribution real-time data to inform optimization and the orchestration of grid edge behind-the-meter and front-of-the-meter systems as a single, coherent environment.
Real-time Execution
Optimization and activity for control is continuous based on the type of resource and the system need.
Constraint-aware Operation
Physical, operational, and market constraints are native inputs to system behavior. Distributed resources are actively managed while grid, market, and customer commitments are maintained.
Scalable Response Orchestration
Distributed assets are aggregated and may be directed with unified system intent (for interconnect response), regional (for control area response), or targeted (for distribution or multiple distribution circuit level response), independent of ownership.
Infrastructure-grade Reliability
The system is engineered to the same standards of resilience and availability expected of physical infrastructure. The system is able to reconfigure committed infrastructure in response to real-time events including outages.
Continuous, real-time DER orchestration reduces the likelihood of equipment degradation and failures, and improves the system’s ability to operate under stress, volatility, and disruption.
AI-Native orchestration powered by GemAI
Our proprietary AI engine, Global Energy Management AI (GemAI), is a multi-state, multi-objective real-time optimization system. It has been designed to actively and dynamically optimize the grid edge as conditions unfold in real-time, and to learn from experience.
Real-Time orchestration
GemAI is used to build a continuous digital twin of the energy system to co-optimize every connected asset against cost, grid reliability, load flexibility, carbon, consumer needs, and network integrity simultaneously.
The system continuously delivers responses to signals and sensors from the utility, grid edge devices, and other data sources reiterating the following steps:
Construct
GemAI updates our digital twin of the energy system environment, continuously synchronizing with the all available data.
Analyze
GemAI analyzes, evaluates and generates forward-looking scenarios. Scenarios are priced and evaluated for grid impact and all constraints.
Optimize
Multi-state, multi-objective optimization is performed across multiple dimensions, balancing grid objectives, asset risks and decarbonization goals.
Execute
Executable control actions, dispatch instructions, and financial decisions are generated and enacted across distributed assets and portfolios in real time.
Reiterate
GemAI optimization is continuously executes this cycle to identify and act on new opportunities.
QGEMS fuses forecasting, simulation, valuation, and execution into a single operational platform.
Key technology characteristics include:
AI-native Execution
Intelligence is embedded directly into control logic, enabling continuous optimization and automated response under real-time conditions.
Real-time Command-and-control
QGEMS issues, validates, and monitors controls at machine speed across millions of distributed assets.
System-wide intent enforcement
Local asset behavior may be aligned to any number of system objectives, constraints, and priorities, depending on the client need (interconnect, regional, local), the resource type and capability to deliver.
Operational and Financial Synchronization
Physical operation and optimal economic outcomes are managed together. Processing a trillion transactions per day (per instance), QGEMS autonomously delivers superior market returns.
Cybersecurity
Today's standard encryption methods are secure only until computing power advances far enough to break them.
QGEMS security architecture uses a fundamentally different approach to ensure the safety of the grid, utilities, and energy system participants. Employing a physics-based post-quantum cryptographic methodology, our crypto-agile framework keeps our digital infrastructure secure against classical and emerging quantum threats.
We employ three reinforcing layers:
- Quantum-resistant encryption known as Post Quantum Cryptography or PQC
- Quantum random encryption keys QRNG as a second layer of quantum-proof security
- Unbroken cradle-to-grave data security: QGEMS data management architecture maintains encryption at the most granular level throughout the entire lifecycle of every piece of data in the system. Our encryption method travels with the data, intact, through every system, every process, and every transaction.
As a result, QGEMS cybersecurity is continuous and does not depend on any individual component, vendor, or platform to hold. Even if a specific device or software layer within the grid infrastructure were to be compromised, the data it touches remains protected.
Deployment options
QGEMS is deployed on a stand-alone or integrated basis, depending on the client need.
It is utilized as a stand-alone system when aggregating grid edge resources for asset and / or portfolio management, and decarbonization measurement and tracking.
QGEMS delivers additional value when implemented as part of an integrated system with utilities to unolock additional value at the regional and local scale, operating in tandem with the following:
Advanced Distribution Management Systems
Informing and performing grid edge reliability services, using networked virtual power plants to provide demand flexibility, energy storage dispatch and power quality improvement.
Power Marketing ETRM Systems
Informing and performing grid edge aggregation of networked virtual power plant products for energy, capacity and ancillary services.
Outage Management Systems
Informing and performing grid edge sensing, resilience and microgrid islanding capabilities, and customer outage communication through QGEMS mobile app.
